Tulips

Have you ever seen
a young one slightly
reclined as if
to spread her
heavenly fragrance
like a brilliant
rumor kept between
competitive friends?
All morning,
they tease rain
water onto the soft
slide of petal, rinsing
what pungent secrets
have gathered
against the fold.
