Richard J. O'Brien is a writer who lives in Pennsylvania. His short stories have appeared online at Pulp and Dagger, Demensions, Frontiers, and others. His poems recently appeared in Midwest Literary Review, New Plains Review, Falling Star Magazine and Citron Review. Mr. O'Brien served in the army, attended Rutgers University where he received his B.A. in English. Currently, Mr. O'Brien is pursuing his MFA in Creative Writing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

How It Works With Angels
Bedtime: a
metaphysical question
and answer session with
my 11-year-old son.
How do angels work? How do they
protect everyone at once?
Do they move faster than
light? What if when I am old and
you are
dead and I
send you a letter in heaven,
would you answer it and
say
‘Oh, that’s easy. Here’s how
it works with angels.’
My
ignorance of angels
makes me more human.
At best, a father’s
wisdom is
pure conjecture. There are no words
to sort fact from
faith.
