Sandy Lyne

How Do You Become a Poet?

Put good things in the body.
Deep breaths. Good water,
and the fragrance of woods and earth.

Feed the eyes.
Flowers. Shells. Faces. Hands. The night sky.
The sun on water. Flights of birds.

Feed the ears.
Laughter. Wind. Water in motion in all
its forms: fountains, streams, rivers, ocean waves.

Feed the heart:
all weathers, including tears and angers,
whatever needs love.
Write. Make mistakes. Erase. Forgive. See the joke.
Grow.
