Roadside Chapels, Roadside Inns

Tracks of feral cats and cars.
Gray snow along the roadside.
They come out, dart back in, away
until the neighborhood
is left, squat buildings in twin rows,
in silence. High in corners
of living rooms, the shadows roost,
huddled, with bloodied feathers.
