A Haibun

I thumb through a book sale treasure
I have owned for years, and often read,
and realize "The New Poets" are all
old... or dead.

wood finds no pleasure
as part of the violin
music is for ears

A Refusal to Mourn the Death, by Fire, of a Fireman

(Two Butterfly Cinquains after Dylan Thomas, William Shakespeare, and A. E. Houseman)

Refuse
to mourn the death,
by fire, of a fireman.
If a house of your worship falls
upon
your head, then God-- who can pluck the
wings from every fly,
and allots how
each man

must die--
wanted you dead!
Mercenary, you took
your pay, you earned your fame, now eat
your bread.
Remember, after this first death
there are no more... after
all this, there is
no more.
