1. What personally identifiable information do we collect from you?
We collect some personal information if and when you submit a work for consideration for publication in our webzine. In that process, we ask for your name, your city, State or Province, and your country, and your email address; for whether you are younger than 16 years of age or older; for a brief biographical sketch; and for the submission itself. This information is used to decide whether or not to publish your work and, if your work is published, to provide information you volunteer about yourself to the reading public, particularly, the email address at which you can be contacted for requests for reprint permission and any other requests or feedback and information for your biographical sketch. Once you make a submission by email, you are no longer anonymous to us. Once you are published in our webzine, your name and email address will be public information, as well as any information included in your biographical sketch, which may include, amongst other information you supply for that purpose, your personal website URL and your email address. If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence. Wherever we collect personal information, we make an effort to include a link to this Privacy Policy on that page. NOTE: If you have a strong preference that your email address not be published, please say so in the cover letter for your submission. We will honor such requests.
2. What are cookies and how do we use them?
A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. We do not use cookies to store or track information about you.
3. How do we use your information?
Our primary goal in collecting personal information is to decide whether to publish your work and, if we do so, to publish basic identifying information about you so that the readers of the webzine in which we publish your work will know something about you. We do not require any elements of your information other than your name to be published with your work; however, we recommend publication of your email address for feedback purposes and publication of at least minimal biographical information and we will publish such information that you voluntarily provide us unless you direct us not to do so.
4. Who is collecting information?
When you are on the lochravenreview.net webzine site and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with us alone, unless your work is published, in which case, your information may be published as described above. Please be aware that other web sites that have links on our site may collect personally identifiable information about you. The information practices of those Internet web sites linked to lochravenreview.net are not covered by this privacy statement.
5. With whom do we share your information?
We will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information except when we publish your work as described above, or in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be violating our Terms of Service or may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) our rights or property, other lochravenreview.net users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. We may disclose or access account information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it and for administrative and other purposes that we deem necessary to maintain, service, and improve our products and services.
6. What are your choices regarding collection, use, and distribution of your information?
We do not sell or rent user information to anyone. Publication in our webzine is dependent and contingent upon publishing your work and your name as an absolute minimum. If you do not wish to allow any of your information to be made public, you can choose not to seek publication in our webzine.
7. What is our policy on allowing you to update, correct, or delete your personally identifiable information?
You may update, correct, or delete your lochravenreview.net information at any time by notifying the owner of lochravenreview.net at [email protected]
8. How do we protect your personal financial and health-related information?
We do not collect your personal financial or health-related information, and therefore do not use it and do not protect it in any way.
9. What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of your information?
We do not collect information for which special security precautions are reasonable and necessary. We rely upon the security features of our host server and of our email providers for normal security of online files and email. We delete email after the publication of an issue is complete and contributors have received final communications in that regard. It is a regrettable fact that no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we try to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.
10. What about children's privacy?
The safety of children is of concern to all of us. lochravenreview.net is a website for persons aged 16 and older. While our content is not expected to be offensive to any adult, it is not meant for young children. Our submission pages emphasize that children - specifically anyone younger than 16 - should exit the website. Our exit links lead to the highly regarded "Yahooligans!" web guide designed especially for kids ages 7 to 12. Sites listed on "Yahooligans!" have all been selected by educators to ensure that they are fun and age-appropriate for younger audiences. lochravenreview.net is a general audience web site that complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. When a child under age 16 (whether self-identified or discovered by us to be under 16) attempts to make a submission to lochravenreview.net, despite having been directed not to do so and despite having been directed to exit the website, we will refuse their submission and delete their submission email from our records. If a parent wishes to advise us that their child has and/or will attempt to make a submission to lochravenreview.net, that parent can send an email to the Editor at [email protected] to request that their child's submission be rejected, which it will be. Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, no web site operator is permitted to require a child under the age of 13 to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in an activity as a condition of participation. We abide by this requirement by refusing to deal at all with children under the age of 16. We do not collect or share personally identifying information about users who are under the age of 16 with anyone. We will not knowingly contact users who are under the age of 16 about anything other than to reject submission requests from them. We will not knowingly accept submissions for publication from users who are under the age of 16.
11. What else should you know about your privacy?
Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online - for example on message boards, through email, or in chat areas - that information can be collected and used by others. If you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your online passwords and/or account information. Please be careful and responsible whenever you're online.
